The Hedges Elementary Student Media-based Asthma Research Team project puts mobile devices into the hands of adolescents with asthma to investigate and improve their asthma.
Students use the devices to take pictures and to make videos, which are compiled into educational public service announcements, shown to other students and community members and evaluated for effectiveness.
Based on students' own findings and desire to make a positive change in their community, SMART participants have begun to implement a no-idling zone around their school, in order to reduce asthma triggers and help all students breathe easier.
